Family History Centers in California: Family History Centers are associated with the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and have access to its large collection (over 2 million rolls of microfilm) via a special loan arrangement. Family History Centers also have the International Genealogical Index, Ancestral File, and the catalog of the Family History Library's holdings. California -- The Golden State: The official website of the state government of California. How to Order a Certified Copy from the State Office of Vital Records: The official word from the California state Department of Health Services. NARA Laguna Niguel: The Laguna Niguel regional facility of the U.S. National Archives. NARA San Francisco: The Bay Area regional facility of the U.S. National Archives, located in San Bruno. California Links on Cyndi's List: Arranged by subject. California Genealogy a>: The California section of the USGenWeb Project. California GenWeb Project: A gateway to genealogical information for the state and each of its counties. USGenWeb Archives for California: Transcriptions of original source material from the state of California, arranged by county. California Maps: In the Perry-Castaņeda Library Map Collection of the University of Texas at Austin. 1895 Atlas of California: Alphabetic listing of towns and cities in the state in 1895, with both state and county maps. California Genealogical Society: With headquarters in Oakland. Union Regimental Index: California: Focusing on regimental histories of California units. California Land Patent Records: A searchable index to federal deeds in California between 1856 and 1995, compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The Maritime Heritage Project: Historical accounts of those who travelled to the Golden State by ship, including those who never made it due to shipwrecks. "California as I Saw It": First-person narratives of California's early years, 1849-1900 consisting of the full texts and illustrations of 190 works documenting the formative era of California's history through eyewitness accounts. Part of the Library of Congress American Memory Project. WPA California Folk Music Project: Collections of folk music from California, collected during the 1930s. Part of the Library of Congress American Memory Project. California Mailing Lists: Email-based discussion forums on genealogy in California. SOCCGS: The South Orange County California Genealogical Society, with information on membership benefits, monthly newsletters, and data from the 1891 census of Antigonish County, Nova Scotia. Sutter County, California GenWeb: Sutter County was the destination of many who hoped to cash in on the agricutlural side of the California Gold Rush. San Mateo County Genealogical Society: Information on the Society, its history, monthly meetings, library, publications, and Special Interest Groups. Mendocino County, California GenWeb site: Includes indexes to the 1850, 1860 and 1870 federal censuses of that county. The Computer Genealogy Society of San Diego: Contains a listing of the Family History Centers in the San Diego area with their addresses and hours of operation. Ditto for the region's public libraries. And the names, addresses, and meeting times of local genealogical societies. You'll also find a calendar of local family history events, information on the CGSSD CD-ROM library, and instructions on joining the society's mailing list (hosted by the University of California at San Diego). History of Orange County, California: Kenneth Kao's short treatise on the exploration of the region by early Europeans, the establishment of early Catholic missions, and the growth of the county during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
