Canada has a well-earned reputation as a country with a big heart, a
reputation that is due in part to its acceptance of thousands of
orphans from Britain's Barnardo's Homes, as well as young immigrants
from many other places.
Marjorie Kohli has an interest in these young immigrants to Canada,
and in sharing her knowledge through her website of that title. These
excellent pages include links to information on dozens of
organizations that sponsored youth immigration to Canada, and even
one link to data on those sent to Bermuda.
The links often lead to data researched by Ms. Kohli herself, giving
an overview of the sponsoring institution, a brief summary of the
immigration, and who to contact for more detailed information. In
cases where a contact address is not known, the author has included
an email address and a plea for anyone who can help to supply her
with the information so it can be shared with others.
Beyond the immigrant groups themselves, the site includes information
on some of the ships that brought the young emigres, libraries with
special collections that can be of assistance to researchers, and an
online queries section, complete with email contact information.
This is an invaluable site for anyone with an interest in orphans who
were sent to Canada, or for anyone with a deep interest in Canadian
immigration research.
